I didn't find the Whitstable trip very helpful or inspiring to me in this unit. I used to find Whitstable so easy to photograph, draw and paint, but after living there for over 19 years and seeing the same things everyday, there wasn't a lot that caught my eye. Despite not finding anything that really inspired me, I was fascinated by what other students from my class were finding so interesting and by the way that buildings, roads, signs, beaches and boats that I see everyday were so fascinating to them. Therefore I tried to capture parts of Whitstable that I knew well without taking them for granted, seeing a beauty in them that I had not seen before.
I think that I don't associate Whitstable with modern life as I am there as the changes happen, so to me it is day to day life, nothing seems new or modern, whereas in Canterbury I picked up on the CCTV, signs, etc, because I did not know that they were there... maybe it is a good thing; you should know your home town like the back of your hand, or maybe it is time for me to move away and start a fresh, somewhere unfamiliar?
